Mr Hornung is a Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary, a tertiary referral centre and one of the UK’s leading NHS trusts. After qualifying in 2003 and completing his basic surgical training in Yorkshire, he undertook a period of clinical research at University Hospital South Manchester investigating the pathophysiology of pelvic floor pathology. He then completed his higher surgical training in the northwest, gaining expertise in general and colorectal surgery at all the major tertiary centres. Mr Hornung has a specialist interest in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and undertook a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Yorkshire prior to taking up his consultant post. He is the Clinical Lead for Colorectal Cancer at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Mr Hornung has published widely and presented at both national and international meetings. He is actively involved in research and recruits patients to a number of national multicentre clinical trials.

Mr Hornung delivers patient centred care, building a relationship based on trust and clear communication. He offers best surgical management founded on evidence based practice for general and colorectal surgical conditions including haemorrhoids, anal fissure/fistula, pilonidal sinus, hernias, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, change in bowel habit, inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel disease, diverticular disease and bowel cancer.
Away from work Mr Hornung enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family. He enjoys most sports, particularly tennis and rugby and helps out coaching his son’s junior rugby team on a Sunday. He is also a keen skier and fair weather windsurfer.
