Mr Christian Macutkiewicz was invited as a distinguished guest at Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) 2019 Annual Scientific Congress in Bangkok, Thailand.

Mr Macutkiewicz was invited to give three major talks at the congress:

1. The Difficult Gallbladder
Mr Macutkiewicz discusses what factors increase the risk of a difficult gallbladder operation. He then discusses the strategies on how to perform a safe cholecystectomy in these high risk patients and how to stay out of trouble during the operation.

2. Delayed Gastric Emptying

Mr Macutkiewicz discusses a common complication after pancreas surgery. Delayed gastric emptying is when the stomach cannot empty properly after surgery. The factors associated with this condition and the management strategies were discussed along with the latest research and randomised trials on how to reduce its incidence.

3. “How I do it” Masterclass: The Difficult Gallbladder and Bile Duct

Mr Macutkiewicz teaches the techniques needed to perform a cholecystectomy in the difficult gallbladder and bile duct scenario. Over 110 delegates signed up for this breakfast masterclass at the congress where Mr Macutkiewicz discussed strategies for safe cholecystectomy, how to control difficult bleeding, safe subtotal cholecystectomy strategies and presented videos of difficult gallbladders and how to perform them.

4. Chairman: Liver and Pancreas Trauma

Mr Macutkiewicz chaired a session discussing the latest guidelines on liver and pancreatic trauma.
